- Wolt employs their delivery drivers as contractors and not wage employees.
- The Icelandic Confederation of Labour (ASI) has accused Wolt to use contractors instead of wage employees in order to pay below the minimum wage according to the collective agreements. They point out that the business model is based on pushing the pay of their delivery drivers as low as possible and thus taking advantage of the most vulnerable workers in society.
- The pay was quoted to be on average 4.800kr per hour for bike delivery independent of time of day or weather. This pay is before taxes, social security payments and pension payments, all which the delivery workers have to pay themselves. As contractors they have no right to sick leave or holiday pay, nor do they get holiday or Christmas bonuses.
- Many of the delivery drivers were found to have no work permit. They had been sub-contracted by other delivery drivers with contracts with Wolt.
- The police claims that the employer (Wolt) has responsibility that their drivers have a work permit. Wolt states as sub-contracting is usually not allowed in the contract for delivery drivers they bear no responsibility.
