Is your workplace on the list of shame?

Know who you’re working for.

Workers reported to us that many abuses (wage-theft, understaffing, lack of contract, termination of contract, etc) were justified by their boss because the company was doing badly financially or they had too many operating costs.

First, the financial state of the company you are working for is not your responsibility.

Second, you can double-check if it’s true.

In Iceland, you can search companies through:

  • Their name (nafn)
  • Address (heimilisfang)
  • Kennitala (social number)
  • VSK-number

You can search on the tax office’s website Skatturinn.

You can find the exact name of your workplace on your payslip, which may be different than the physical place you are working at.

There, you can see who you are really working for (Raunverulegir eigendur), and how much profit your workplace does each year (Gögn úr ársreikningaskrá).

Although it says “Kaupa” (to buy), you can put the documents in the shopping cart, and download them for free.
